Dr. Xian-He Sun, born April 26, 1955 in Beijing, received B.S. degree in Mathematics from Beijing Normal University in 1982, M.S. degree in Mathematics, M.S in Computer Science and Ph.D. in Computer Science from Michigan State University in 1985, 1987, and 1990 respectively. He served as computer scientist, Ames (Iowa) National Laboratory (1990-91), visiting assistant professor, Clemson University (1991-92), staff scientist, ICASE, NASA Langley Research Center (1992-94), assistant and associate professor, Lusitania State University (1994-99). In 1999, Dr. Sun joined the faculty of Illinois Institute of Technology. Currently he is a professor and the director of the Scalable Computing Software Laboratory in the Computer Science Department at Illinois Institute of Technology, and is a guest faculty at the Argonne National Laboratory.
Dr. Sun also served as visiting scientist NASA Langley, Hampton (1994-96), editor, special issue, Journal of Parallel and Automated Computing (1994): editor, special issue, Journal of Supercomputing (1998): associate editor; Proceedings of PDPTA Conference (1998); and contributing author to a book. Dr. Sun's research interests include grid and cluster computing, software system, pervasive computing, performance evaluation, and scientific computing His research has been supported by DOD, DOE, NASA, NSF, and other government agencies.
Dr. Sun was awarded the Certificate of Recognition, Office of Naval Research (1999) and is a recipient of NSF research award (1999), TGEF award of Louisiana Board of Regents (1999) and the Best Paper Award from the International Conference on Parallel Processing (ICPP01) (2001). Dr. Sun is active in his profession. He is senior member of IEEE, member of ACM, New York Academy of Science, and Phi Kappa Phi, and chairman or on the program committee for a number of international conferences and workshops, including the general co-chair of the Grid and Cooperative Computing (GCC03) workshop, area chair of the technical committee of the IEEE Supercomputing (SC03) conference, vice chair of the programming committee of the International Conference on Parallel Processing (ICPP04), and vice president of the Society of Chinese American Professors and Scientists..
