Ha Jin's new book, War Trash: View From the Prison Camp (Pantheon books, 352pp.), was just published. The book is an account by an elderly Chinese man's years as a P.O.W. in United States and South Korean military prisons during the Korean War. Ha Jin is the author of the fine National Book Award-winning novel Waiting and several other works of fiction; In as book review in The New York Times (Oct. 10), Russell Banks states the seamless, somewhat unsettling fusion of invention and reportage is aided and abetted by the fact that Ha Jin taps into two ancient and honorable Western literary traditions -- the novel in the form of a nonfiction memoir, and the nonfiction memoir as prison narrative."
Meeting the author will be sponsored by Barnes & Noble on Thursday 14, at 7:30 p.m. at 2289 Broadway at 82nd Street, New York City.
