Joseph Ching-fu Chow at 72


Dr. Joseph Ching-fu Chow died of pancreatic cancer, Saturday, July 17, in Swedish covenant Hospital. He was 72.

Dr. Chow, born in Jia-Li farming village, in Taiwan, immigrated to the United States after high school, earning his bachelor's and master's degrees in mechanical engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. received a doctorate in mechanical engineering at Brown University in 1964. He taught at the University of Illinois in Chicago and retired in 1994. He married to Cynthia B. K. Zung in 1961. Zhun died a few years ago and he later married Ya-Ting Josephine Lan.

Dr. Chow was active in Chicago's Chinese community and served president of the Taiwan Benevolent Association of Chicago. He is survived by his wife, Josephine; daughters Jennifer and Julie; sisters Cynthia Chen and Chu-Hwang Hong; brothers Shu-Yua and Bin-Shain; and a grand-daughter.
