Heather Fong named acting police chief in San Francisco


Heather Fong was named interim police chief by San Francisco Mayor Gavin. The mayor vowed to bring new leadership to the police department. In response to the appointment, some residents said that minority police chiefs have come and gone in the past with no positive changes in the crime that plagues their neighborhoods In a 2000 street brawl three off-duty police officers were accused. Accusation of the police department's blocking an investigation led to the indictments of former Chief Earl Saners, Chief Alex Fagan St. and five other commanders.
