Chak Yin Lee, 42, who had an office on New York City Broadway and Canal Street for the past decade, was indicted on charges of cheating clients out of more than $800,000. Victims were from all five boroughs of New York City Lee, who represented sellers, accepted deposit checks from buyers, put them into his escrow accounts, and then transferred the fund to his personal account. In July he stopped coming into his office and later he shut it down completely, without a forwarding address.
Lee was arrested at his home in New Jersey and is being held on $533,000 bail. He is charged with grand larceny, criminal possession of stolen property and fraud.(Source: Heather Harlan, AsianWeek, Dec 24, 2004)
