A report card issued by The Committee of 100 on April 1 in Los Angeles, Calif., showed that only 1 percent of Fortune 500 corporate directors in 2002 and 2003 were APA, even though APAs comprise 4 percent of the United States population. The Fortune 500 w including retailer WalMart Stores and petroleum giant Exxon-Mobil -- ranks the top 500 American companies by revenue. To compare, 31 percent of the NASDAQ 100 -- an index of 100 companies including leading technology leaders Microsoft and Intel -- had at least one APA on their boards according to the Committee of 100.
"Our Report Card carries a message of missed opportunity to Corporate America," said Wilson Chu, who chaired the Committee of 100's APA Corporate Board Initiative. (Source: AsianWeek, Apr. 2, 2004).
