Calvin Chang reinstated at UCD

Calvin Changn on the University of California, Davis police force was let go in July because of his sexual orientation. He was instated Friday, October 31. As part of the agreement, Chang will be compensated with full retroactive pay and benefits since July 4. UCDPD released Chang 10 days before the end of his probationary period on claims that he was a "high risk" officer due to his involvement in three traffic accidents while on duty at the UCD Medical Center in Sacramento. However, record shows that Chang was only involved in two accidents. In both cases, the Sacramento Police Department declared that he was not at fault. The university's decision to reinstate Chang was based upon review of two traffic accident reports. University officials did not address Chang's allegations that discrimination was the underlying reason for his release. Chang is Chinese American and he is gay.
