Xilin Asian Community Center in Naperville opened

Xilin Asian Community Center opened last week in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois. The 10,000-square-foot space in Naperville's Iroquois Shopping Center houses a computer lab, classrooms for English and Chinese language instruction and a large banquet-size room for group functions. The center is the culmination of a dream of Lisle-based Xilin Association, a nonprofit, grass-roots Chinese group serving the Chicago area. The association has been bringing Chinese language classes to youngsters, adoption services to adults, and health and benefits programs and workshops to seniors since 1989. But it has sought to offer its programs to people of all Asian cultures, who make up nearly 8 percent of DuPage County's population. (Irene Cualoping, ENERI Communication)
